Night Vision


There are multiple methods used currently to detect and identify objects during the night such as: longwave infrared, midwave infrered, and near infrared spectra.

Longwave and midwave infrared are able to seek heat like in the movies, for exmample, when a person is spotted as orange or red with night vision goggles. Infrared is where light intensifiers come into play, providing an even clearer picture. "Heat seekers and light intensifiers both have their advantages and disadvantages, yet both kinds are getting smaller, lighter, and of better quality. " In order to keep progressing, different types of sensors will need to be combined within the same unit.

  1. When I hear of long and mid wave infrared vision, I think of that movie Hollow Man. That was creepy. But the parts where they used the heat sensored goggles. I’m sure this adds a whole surprise a lot if it can be done discreetly and would produce an advantage if the other person did not have night vision on.

  2. The blog post on night vision is good, but has left something to be desired. The blog has a great description of night vision, but has missed many of the key points that were supposed to be hit on. The evolution of the technology wasn't in the blog. The blog mentions different kinds of night vision, but doesn't describe the relationship from one type to another. The blog also has failed to hit the three areas that it was supposed to hit on. Night vision doesn't have much impact on art to comment on, but it does have an impact on society. It's improved the lives of solders, hunters, and outdoor enthusiasts. The science behind night vision is getting away from just light amplification, and starting to touch on infrared technology which is a huge step. Night vision has been making a lot of steps towards a more defined, and sensitive product. It's not a mainstream as other technologies, but it's still growing just as much as ever.

  4. Night Vision is very cool. Having technology that allows you to see in pitch darkness is awesome. It's not as high tech as regular night vision goggles, but I know someone who has a pair. Although it is different from looking at something in broad daylight it is still pretty neat.
    I didn't think they would actually work, but standing far away, I was able to see what was going on, on the other side of the yard. However I did notice that it made the objects look farther away than they really were. That could be tricky, but nice job on the post!

  5. Nite vision is really neat. I think that they are neat to use. I think the military men should all have them.
